• Joining the session from a room with complete privacy (unable to be heard by others)
• Using headphones to ensure audible clarity and privacy of session
• Not in active crisis or experiencing a life-threatening or other emergency
Q: What is telemental health, tele-counseling?
A: Telehealth is a branch of medicine in the field of health care delivery. The primary delivery method includes evaluating and treating patients over live videoconferencing or telephonic equipment.
Q: What telecounseling services do you provide?
A: We provide the following telecounseling services:
- We allow individuals to connect to a Licensed or master’s level Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapist, Professional Counselor, or Drug and Alcohol Addictions Counselor through our secure teleconferencing platform.
Q: What conditions are treated through telecounseling?
A: We can address the same issues we would address and treat in the office including; Therapy for Depression and Anxiety, Couples Counseling, Family Counseling, Parenting Support, Grief Counseling, Work and Career issues, Stress Management, Addiction & Recovery, Conflict Resolution
Q: What software and equipment do I need for a telecounseling appointment?
A: Telecounseling sessions are conducted through video conferencing. You need a webcam/video camera and microphone compatible with our software. You will also need a broadband internet connection (DSL, cable, T1 or higher). Computers and tablets must have a front facing camera. Cellular devices may be used but the quality may be lower and subject to interruptions.
Q: What are the HIPAA requirements regarding using videoconferencing through telecounseling?
A: Device encryption and a private internet connection are recommended for client security and privacy. Most telecounseling equipment in use today has encryption capability as a part of their standard features. Other types of telehealth, such as the store-forward, are considered PHI and must be managed according to HIPAA requirements. Family Therapy Group, LLC utilizes Zoom as a platform for telecounseling which provides for further security protection.
Q: Are there any limitations to telecounseling treatment?
A: All limitations inherent in the traditional counseling-client relationship are present in telecounseling. Additionally, your counselor may take added precautions as you are not in each other’s presence.
Q: Does insurance cover telecounseling?
A: Many insurances cover telecounseling. Please contact our billing coordinator to ensure your insurance covers and reimburses for telecounseling.
Q: Is my privacy protected with telecounseling?
Utilizing our tele-counseling services will allow you to never miss a session with your therapist due to transportation problems, weather concerns, traffic, or child care.
